THIS LISTING IS FOR 10 SEEDS OF HYLOCEREUS UNDTAUS Hylocereus undatus, the white-fleshed pitahaya, is a species of Cactaceae and is the most cultivated species in the genus. It is used both as an ornamental vine and as a fruit crop - the pitahaya or dragon fruit. Hylocereus undatus, the white-fleshed pitahaya, is used both as an ornamental vine and as a fruit crop - the pitahaya or dragon fruit. It produces a very popular fruit, pitaya or pitahaya (taïno "scaly fruit"), also known as "fruit of the dragon" in French (or dragon fruit, strawberry pear in English). It has a pink skin covered with foliaceous scales. Its flesh is white and is filled with small black seeds. Large, strangely shaped red fruit with sweet flavored pulp. The fruit has recently become a popular flavoring for beverages and there is much interest in growing the fruit as a commercial crop. The plant is a vining cactus growing either out of the soil or as an epiphyte, with aerial roots. Plants are tolerant of short frosts and can be grown in subtropical climates. Does well in dry conditions. Can be grown as a house plant. Hardy to zone 10a (30 - 35F) Dragon Fruit grows best in dry, tropical or subtropical climates where annual rainfall ranges from 20-50" per year. In wet, tropical zones, plants may grow well but sometimes have problems setting fruit reliably. The plants aren't usually too picky as to soil type, but because of their epiphytic nature, it is recommended to grow them in soil that is supplemented with high amounts of organic material. The plant has been grown successfully in sandy soils. Shade is sometimes provided in hot climates.
