Medinilla is a genus of about 193 species of flowering plants in the family Melastomataceae, native to tropical regions of the Old World from Africa, east through Madagascar and southern Asia to the western Pacific Ocean islands. The genus was named after J. de Medinilla, governor of the Mariana Islands in 1820. They are evergreen shrubs or lianas. The leaves are opposite or whorled, or alternate in some species. The flowers are white or pink, produced in large panicles. Medinilla cummingii native to mossy forest of the Philippines at 700-1000 m altitude. It is a small shrub, 1-2 m in height, with ternate or quaternate leaves, and many-flowered, pendant panicles up to 25 cm long. Fruits are 5-7 mm in diameter, pink to purplish to bluish-black when ripe.
