Brachyotum Lindenii

Native to paramo vegetation at high elevations in the Andes of Ecuador and Colombia between 2700 and 4500 m, this attractive small shrub to about 2 m tall sports small, glossy leaves and masses of pendulous flowers with a red calyx and blackish-purple petals. Brachyotum lindenii resembles a miniature Tibouchina and will make a lovely ornamental but is apparently not in cultivation.
