THIS LISTING IS FOR 5 SEEDS OF FUCHSIA EXCORTICATA From the edge of forests, especially along stream-sides and shady gullies, throughout New Zealand comes this attractive, fast-growing shrub or small tree. It has very ornamental, thin, red, papery bark that peels easily to reveal an inner, smooth, satin-like, greenish layer. The very interesting flowers, each an inch or so long, appear in spring and hang directly from the branches. They are an unusual, vaguely metallic crimson-maroon-purple in colour and produce an equally unusual blue pollen. These are followed by purple, edible berries, Konini, which have a unique flavour. Spreading small tree with thin flaky orange bark and bearing thin pointed leaves that are white underneath. Leaves up to 10mm long by 1.5-3cm wide, margin with small teeth, deciduous in southern areas. Flower colourful, in clusters from trunk or branches. Fruit dark purple, blunt at tip and base. Fuchsia excorticata is a deciduous Shrub growing to 10 m (32ft 10in) at a medium rate. It is hardy to zone (UK) 9 and is frost tender. It is in flower from May to June. Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and prefers well-drained soil. Suitable pH: acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It prefers moist soil. The plant can tolerates strong winds but not maritime exposure.
